Photographs Over Time.

Just a personal sample from my photographs over time.

Year Three. Creating My Personal Manifesto. 'Postcard Portfolio'

The Brief: A personal portfolio of your works presented in an appropriate way to your style and design.

This assignment was extremely useful as it allowed me to come to terms with the best possible way to display my work, in the most professional yet personal manner. I have a bit of an obsession with postcards - I collect them and I find inspiration from a lot of them for my assignments. Can you not tell?

So for this assignment I thought it was the most logical idea to present my portfolio in a postcard format.

Year Three. Creating My Personal Manifesto. 'The Type Factory'

The Brief: Using typography as the main concept create a series of promotional graphics; including a logo, identity strategy, and uniform theme throughout your work for the new upcoming museum - The Type Factory.

General Concept: The Type Factory would be developed within the Surry Hills area. The main concept behind the displayed designs is the experience of the Type Factory, being targeted towards the developing designer community. This design is ambiguous and engaging, using a simple colour palate and an illustrated logo. I wish to engage the onlooker and to intrigue them to look further into the meaning of the logo and the museum.

I have used a simple motif for the logo - which has been abstracted from two shorthand 'and' symbols and stretched to form this logo. In today's society it is difficult to engage an audience. Therefore throughout a series of differently designed dynamic logos the onlooker can be shown the changing face of the museum.

The ongoing pattern of the logos arranged together on the front page of the coffee table booklet - is a visual metaphor describing the evolving world of type as it is constantly changing and forming into new designs. The Type Factory is one of a kind within Australia, and I have also considered this within my design process. Using unique layouts and different images, this revolutionary factory can be up to date with the current design trends and standards.

The last two images combined together create a business card designed for the museum.

Year Two. Exhausting the Brief. 'Magazine Layout Design' - SasQuatch Vol. 1

Ah yes - another project full of Greta. She honestly is rather a glorious character for agreeing to be in 99 percent of my projects. (Lucky she isn't to bad on the eye!)

'It was that god damn Sasquatch!' (Why wouldn't you choose this name for your magazine? It just jumps out at you!)

This assignment was one of those works that just fell into place. Yes I did spend countless hours on my Mac - fiddling around and changing things, but to me these original photographs worked out so well!

The brief for this assignment was to create a magazine based on a particular community - my magazine was the fashion community. I used the opacity tool quite a bit in this assignment to create a uniform colour palette of washed out colours. The first set of images in the back and the front of SasQuatch, I used the minimalism as my main concept throughout SasQuatch. Personally I think in order to draw the attention of the onlooker's eye you must use bold images with as little text as possible. So many magazines today are packed with bold fonts and large brightly coloured images - which all end up looking the same. Using a simple font Letter Gothic Std (the love of my life) and a large image in my humble opinion is glorious!

I have created the 'Contents' page of Sasquatch using old images I found in my mother's old photo albums. Photographs from the seventies are splendid - I love their special quality and the browns and yellows! The background image is a splattered painting I found in my room from years ago.

The next section of the magazine, the article layout, were images that were compulsory for the brief that we had to include within our layout. The blurb was also compulsory to use. My 'Doodle Me' font was also used for the first article.

The last set of images is the mock-up of the original Contents page. This also includes the spine that would be used if the magazine was made. The photographs are just images that I took that I didn't include in the magazine yet- but that I enjoy.

Year Two. Exhausting the Brief. 'Experimental Book' Pt Three

These previous images are the booklet. The last image conveys the final form of the booklet (in which I created to look like a coffin.) The booklet was more of a series of images and collages, as opposed to written information. The main concept behind the booklet was to allow the onlooker to experience their own personal journey when looking throughout the booklet. The series of images were created from both Photoshop and Illustrator. I used rubbings from the the graves, original photographs, magazine cuttings, scanned images that I had created, and again photographs of my sister Greta.

Year Two. Exhausting the Brief. 'Experimental Book' Pt Two

The above images are my poster designs, to which I designed to be placed within Stanton Library. I decided to host a awareness campaign, which allowed local people within the area to come to terms with the importance of the rest park and the people buried there. The event was called 'Memories By Moonlight' which would be a event held at dusk in the actual park. The posters would be situated throughout Stanton Library, primarily near the Historical Centre. The second poster would be situated on bus stops around the North Sydney council area, which would further expose the event.

Year Two. Exhausting the Brief. 'Experimental Book' Pt One

Project Brief: Experimental Book - 'Using a community as your inspiration, create a booklet and series of posters, expressing the importance of this community, and their practices and traditions. Also include found material and typography within your assignment.'

Brief Response: This design brief was one of my favourites. I decided to concentrate on the 'dead community' and based my assignment on St Thomas Rest Park in Cammeray (a loved area of mine in Sydney). It is a bit odd, but I have always had a huge fascination with graveyards. I can literally spend hours there. Choosing a community that I was extremely excited and inspired by allowed me to produce a project to my best ability. The three images above are the initial result of my experimentation. I did a large amount of collaging throughout this assignment; creating motifs and objects that I was able to use within my final assignment.
